BROOKHAVEN, Pa., (CBS) – Police are warning parents to check playground equipment before they let their kids play.
Brookhaven Townwatch President Jim DeProphetis is baffled by who would be heartless enough to try and hurt little kids who just wanted to play.
"Person or person involved would have to be sick. I mean little kids play here. There's no call for it," he said.
Brookhaven Police indicate someone duct taped razor blades to playground equipment at Eaton Park.
The razor blades were first discovered Tuesday by a borough maintenance manager who contacted police.
Neighbors and parents who bring their kids here to the park on west Maple Avenue are stunned.
"I understand it's April Fool's Day but this is not a joke. It's not funny," neighbor Bob Kilman said.
Details released by Brookhaven Police are limited, but the department did send out a safety alert on its Facebook page which reads in part:
"All the parks have been checked as of 4/1/2014 and are clear. This is an active investigation, and parks will be checked by both patrol officers as well as plain clothes officers on every shift."
DeProphetis added townwatch patrols will also be checking parks looking to see if anyone tapes razor blades to equipment.
Police are calling this an isolated incident.
No one was injured.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Brookhaven Police at 610-876-6142.
Police advise if you witness a crime in progress or vandalism at the parks, please call 911.
