WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA9) -- A new job, a new house or a life change, just a few reasons you would need to hire a company for a major move.
Now is the busiest time for that business. But the Better Business Bureau says before you pack up, make sure the movers will not take you or your possessions on a very long ride.
So, protect yourself and your precious cargo to avoid any kind of relocation consternation.
Plan ahead, don't wait until the last minute to find a mover.
Check the mover's reliability report with the BBB
Get a number of written bids based on onsite inspections, phone and Internet estimates aren't always reliable. And, make sure any miscellaneous charges are also included.
And, if the mover holds your items hostage, contact the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
The FMCSA is the agency that investigates complaints against moving companies. They can even fine them. However, victims will not see any of that money because it goes to a general Treasury fund.
