MONTGOMERY VILLAGE (WUSA9) -- A fatal fire killed 4-year-old Lancelot Quarshie and left 40 people with next to nothing last Wednesday at the Cedar Mill Apartments in Montgomery Village, and this Monday, people pitched in to help.

CBS Radio stations from Washington DC teamed up with Safeway and Women Who Care Ministries to hold a fundraiser at Safeway on Goshen Road in Gaithersburg from 2-6 p.m. They asked for canned food, blankets, clothes, gift cards, cash, etc.

"This is the time that we realize we are our brother's keeper, we are our sister's keeper and if everybody could just do their part, we can restore that family, all of those families to wholeness," saidJudith Clark, founded Women Who Care Ministries more than a dozen years ago.

Bob Gardner of Gaithersburg donated cash, with 4-year old Lancelot Quarshie in mind. "He's gone, but the family needs help I think they suffered a lot in the fire," Gardner said.

"Those people were burned out of their homes and we gotta make sure we take care of them," DJ Flexx, of WPGC Radio, broadcasted live. "I want them to give back, help these people any way you can, you can bring a donation, you can bring some food, some clothes, anything, they have nothing, you are so blessed, look at what you have, you are so blessed right now. Just give back a little bit, and you'll be blessed even more."
