HANOVER, Md. (WUSA9) -- Anne Arundel County police say a woman faces multiple charges after she stole boots from a store and then pepper sprayed the store manager when she was confronted about the theft.
Police tell us it all started at approximately 3:34 p.m. Sunday at the Off Broadway Shoes at 7000 Arundel Mills Circle in Hanover.
According to police,Cierra Scottstole a pair of boots from the store. She was confronted outside of the store inside of the mall by the store manager. Scott is accused of then pulling acan of pepper spray from her purse and spraying the manager. Police say between 25 and 30 other people in the mall were affected by the spray.
Polce tell us Scottfled until confronted by the loss prevention officer outside of the mall. Then, according to police, shethreatened the officer with a small knife. He was able todisarm her before she sprayed him with the pepper spray, say police. Police tell us the officer was able to disarm her again and used the pepper spray against her. Scott was then taken into custody.
Anne Arundel County Fire personnel treated all but one of the people affected by the spray at the scene, according to police. One store employeewas taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center (BWMC) for treatment.Scott was also taken to BWMC for treatment for exposure to the pepper spray, say police.
Police say Scott, who is 24 years old and from Baltimore,was charged with robbery, theft, reckless endangerment, and numerous counts of second degree assault.
