COLUMBIA, Md. (WUSA9) -- Fire officials are investigating a commercial building fire in Columbia on Friday.

Officials say shortly before 6:30 a.m. Howard County Department of Fire & Rescue Services units were dispatched to the 10400 block of Little Patuxent Parkway to investigate an automatic fire alarm sounding.

Units found smoke on the fourth floor of the building and fire in an exhaust duct system that appeared to have been from a fire which started on a lower level, say officials.

Units were able to extinguish the original fireat its source but not before it traveled into the exhaust duct system.

Crews remain on the scene to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.

No one was injured during the fire.

Fire investigators are on working to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
