FREDERICK, Md. (WUSA9) -- A man who fled a traffic stop was charged Thursday after police say they found drugs, paraphernalia and a handgun.
Police say an officer stopped a vehicle at Center St. and Madison St. for a traffic violation at 4:19 p.m. The driver, Carl Lee Otto,then fledin the vehicle, leading the officer on a chase for a few blocks, say police.
According to police, a passenger wasz let out of the vehicleat the corner of Mt. Olivet Blvd. and S. Market St. before officers found Otto.
Otto was found in the 600 block of S. Market St. and placed under arrest for Fleeing and Eluding, say police. Police sayduringa search of the vehicle they recovered heroin, a scale and a gun magazine containing ammunition. They also discovered Otto had thrown drug paraphernalia and a handgun from the vehicle, say police.All the items were recovered.
Police say Otto was charged with the following:
• Reckless driving
• Negligent driving
• Fail to stop at stop sign (3 counts)
• Fail to stop at red light
• Fleeing and eluding
• Possession w/ intent to distribute heroin
• Possession of heroin
• Possession of paraphernalia (2 counts)
• Possession of controlled paraphernalia(5 counts)
• Transport gun in vehicle
• Possession of firearm during drug trafficking crime
