NEW CARROLLTON, Md. (WUSA9) -- Prince Geoge's County police have arrested two women in connection to a Jan. 1 homicide in New Carrollton.

The suspects are identified as 26-year-old Lakeisha Colena Evans and 28-year-old Adrienne Jacobe Bell, both of the 5500 block of Karen Elaine Drive in New Carrollton, Md.

Police say at about 4:30 a.m. on New Year's Day, officers were called to the 5500 block of Karen Elaine Drive for a shooting. When they arrived, they found 28-year-old Vondrell Lemar Smith suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Smith, of the 7800 block of Riverdale Road in New Carrollton, died from his injuries a short time later.

Police say Smith went to the suspects' home where a confrontation broke out. During that confrontation, Smith was shot.

After the shooting, Evans and Bell fled from the scene. They were arrested on Jan. 9 and charged with first degree murder.
