ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- A man accused of shooting an Alexandria police officer was declared competent to stand trial.
Kashif Bashir of Woodbridge was previously found incapable of assisting his own defense.
Bashir, a taxi driver,is charged with attempted capital murder of a police officer stemming from the shooting of Alexandria police officer Peter Laboy on February 27, 2013. Laboy was shot in the head in Old Town Alexandria. He suffered severe injuries but survived the attack.
A trial date is expected to be set next week.
