Sydney, Australia (SportsNetwork.com) - Tsvetana Pironkova upset second- seeded Petra Kvitova in the semifinals of the Apia International Sydney on Thursday.

Pironkova won the final eight points to take a 6-4, 6-3 triumph.

Pironkova will play fifth-seeded Angelique Kerber in the final. Kerber defeated Madison Keys 6-4, 6-2 in the other semifinal.

This is the final tune-up for the Australian Open. The first Grand Slam event of 2014 is set to get underway Jan. 13 in Melbourne.
