WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- TheInternal Revenue Service says it has seen a 66 percent increase in the number of fraudulent tax returns.

The agency says nearly 1500 identity theft crimes were investigated last year.

And according to the Treasury Inspector General for the Tax Administration, tax ID theft could cost several billion of dollars over the next four years.
