Commerce City, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Rapids announced Tuesday that they have acquired winger Marvin Chavez from the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for midfielder Atiba Harris.
"Marvin is a dynamic attacking player with a lot of international experience, who can both create and score goals," said Rapids Technical Director Paul Bravo. "We're eager to bring him into our squad and help him get settled in Colorado. We would also like to thank Atiba for his work here last year. He was a true professional and we wish him the best."
Chavez is a five-year veteran of Major League Soccer, having played the last two seasons in San Jose after three with FC Dallas. The 30-year-old played 42 matches with the Earthquakes, scoring four goals and adding 14 assists. He featured in 54 games for FC Dallas, recording eight goals and six assists.
Harris, 28, has 22 goals and 20 assists during his eight years in MLS, a career that spans stints across Real Salt Lake, Chivas USA, FC Dallas, Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Colorado.
"Atiba has been a successful player in this league for a number of years," said Earthquakes head coach Mark Watson. "We've always had our eyes on him and we're happy to bring him to San Jose."
