DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. (WUSA9) -- Prince George's County police have arrested a 22-year-old man for the weekend District Heights murder.
Police say Omar Anthony Smith, of the 7100 block of Marbury Court in District Heights shot and killed another resident of the neighborhood.
Officers were called to the 6700 block of District Heights Parkway for the report of a shooting on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 9:35 p.m., police say. When they arrived on scene, officers found 32-year-old Lyndell Lorenzo Sowells, of the 7000 block of Marbury Court, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Sowells died a short time later at a local hospital.
Before he died, Sowells was able to provide officers were a description of the suspect who shot him and the direction he ran.
Officers used that information to find and arrest Smith. Preliminary investigation reveals the shooting was drug-related.
Smith is charged with first degree murder and is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
