LAUREL, Md. (WUSA9) -- A driver was charged after a crash in Laurel involving a police cruiser, say Prince George's County police officials.

The accident happened at Route 1 andMuirkirk Road early Friday morning at 1:30, according to police.

Police say 32-year-old Devonne Brooks of Lanham was driving a Toyota Camry northbound on Baltimore Avenue. Police Officer First Class Andrew Wallman was in his marked cruiser heading southbound on Baltimore Avenue. Police onvestigators believe Brooks crossed into oncoming traffic to pass another driver and struckthe officer'scruiser head on.

Officer Wallman, who was wearing his seatbelt,was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, say police.He has since been released. Brooks was not hurt.

Police say it's believed Brooks had been drinkingbefore the crash. A breath test revealed he had a blood alcohol content of .16 which is twice the legal limit, according to police. Brooks was arrested and faces charges related to driving under the influence of alcohol.
