DAVIDSONVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Three people have been charged with theft and other offenses after police say they were caught with stolen mail.
At approximately 10:32 a.m. Thursday, officers conducted a traffic stop due to suspicious activity on Double Gate Court at Double Gate Road in Davidsonville. Police say the vehicle was stopped at a mailbox that had the mail flag in the upright position,indication of outgoing mail. The officersknew thevehicle was not a postal vehicle so they conducted an investigation.
Police say there were several mail theft cases in the area recently. Officers determined that the three people inside this vehiclewere in possession of mail from a mailbox in the Arnold section of Anne Arundel County. They then found out that the mail was stolen.
Officers learned checks were stolen andwere able to recover a check that had not been opened yet,however, anotheradditional check "was still outstanding," according to police.
Ronnie Lavern Trice, James Robert Dorsey and Darnell Charles Atkinson have been charged with theft over $1,000 and opening letter without permission. Dorsey was also charged with false statement and possession of marijuana.
