WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- DC Lottery awarded it's $2 million lottery winner today.
Ramon Mendez is from suburban Virginia and has been a cook for 30 years at The Palm restaurant in Washington. The winning ticket was purchased at Gateway News Stand located at 1825 I Street NW, officials said.
Mendez is the sixth person from Virginia who has won over a million dollars or over from the DC Lottery this year.
In a statement,Buddy Roogow executive director of the DC Lottery says, "We could all use a little more jingle in our pockets around the holidays. Million-dollar wins and high jackpots add to the excitement and festivity of the season."
On Friday, the $400 million Mega Millions jackpot will be held. This is the second largest jackpot for Mega Millions. The largest jackpot prize awarded in DC was in May 2009 for $144 million.
