WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- We are just weeks away from a deadline if you're hoping to get health coverage on January 1.

Nicole Duritz is with the Health Education Outreach Division of AARP and she's sharing just how to navigate government paperwork and websites.

Because of the healthcare.gov website difficulties, there are a lot of ways you can get information and sign up.

You can call a toll free number, go online, meet with someone in person or do it the old fashion way and download the application, fill it out and put it in the mail.

When anybody see as government form, it's scary. To get started, break down cost, coverage and convenience.

One of the hallmarks of the law is that the way the different plans are presented has to be similar. You can actually compare apples to apples.

As far as healthcare.gov, Nicole says the feedback she's been hearing around the country is that it has really improved.

AARP has created resources. Visit healthcareanswers.org to read more.
