FREDERICK, Md. (WUSA9) --Two people were arrested on Wednesday for stealing grocery carts in Frederick in order to sell them for scrap metal.
Officers on patrol at the Country Hills Apartment Complex at 1000 Heather Ridge Drive that night saw a pick-up truck parked in front of building letter "G"with several shopping carts in the bed. Officers approached the driver, later identified as Richard Henry Johnson, and passenger, later identified as Haydee Melendez, say police. They discovered thetwo were in the process of stealing carts to sell for scrap metal.
Johnson and Melendez, who are both from Resont, Va.,werearrested and transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center's central booking unit. They are charged with fheft less than $1000 (one count each) and theft scheme less than $1000 (one count each).
