WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- American University was locked down for more than an hour Wednesday evening for the report of a man with a gun on campus.
The university and D.C. police both tweeted around 9:20 p.m. that the lockdown was lifted and no students were hurt. American University tweeted one person was in custody.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said a person on a university bus saw a person with a holster and called it in.
There was no crime, and no display of a weapon, according to Metropolitan police. Police say the person was an off-duty police officer.
The university tweeted the lockdown and shelter in place shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday.
American University and D.C. police were investigating near Gray Hall on Nebraska Ave.
AU police tweeted a photo of two people and urged anyone who had seen them to call police. Metropolitan police said the photo was taken by the person who called in the report.
The tweet has since been deleted.
