WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Crowds of people lined up Tuesday to get their free turkey from a D.C. councilmember.
Counclimember Marion Barry's annual Ward 8 Turkey giveaway took place between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. Tuesday at theUnion Temple Baptist Church.
Over 2,000 turkeys were distributed to Ward 8 families on a first-come, first-serve basis.
"The Ward 8 community is a family, and family takes pride in helping each other," said Barry. "I wish I could help families in need around the City. We all have a responsibility to lend a helping hand to others who are in need, and I'm committed to helping my constituents in every way possible."
