(SportsNetwork.com) - The NFL has fined San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks $15,750 for an illegal hit on New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees during Sunday's game against the Saints.
Greg Williams, Brooks' agent, confirmed the fine to the Sacramento Bee and stated that his client is likely to appeal the verdict.
Brooks was assessed a personal foul for striking Brees in the neck during the fourth quarter in what turned out to be a pivotal play, as Brees fumbled and the 49ers' Patrick Willis recovered before the turnover was negated due to the penalty.
With the drive extended, the Saints went on to tie the contest at 20-20 on a Garrett Hartley field goal. New Orleans eventually won 23-20 in overtime after Hartley delivered a 31-yard field goal in extra time.
