MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) -- A local bridal store is giving away wedding gowns to military brides on Veterans Day.
For a fifth year, Jeanette's Bridal in Manassas is participating in a nationwide campaign called Brides Across America, which has given away more than 10,000 bridal gowns.
Kiera Ogden, the general manager of Jeanette's Bridal in Manassas, Va., says that the store will give away about 150 gowns to brides who are either in the military or whose fiance is in the military.
The store opens at 10 a.m. Monday and the gowns will be given away on a first-come, first-serve basis to registered brides, Ogden says.
Brides must pre-register for the event and there's a $20 registration fee.
Heidi Janson, who founded the campaign, says it's toughfor military brides to plan their weddings because of deployment, injuries and/or a lack of money.
"This is our mission to say thank you and support our heroes," says Janson.
The bridal salon is at 10386 Festival Lane, Manassas. For more information, brides-to-be can call 703-369-1998.
