FORT BELVOIR, Va. (WUSA9) --A deadly shooting at a Virginia homeless shelter is under investigation Thursdaymorning.

Fairfax County police were called to the shelter near Fort Belvoir to break up a fight but officers ended up firing at one of the men involved in the brawl.

James Bryant, 28 has been identified as the man who was killed.

We're told the erratic behavior may have started at the 7- Eleven nearby. We spoke to the morning manager who showed us some surveillance video that he could not release pending clearance from corporate 7-Eleven. We can tell youthat the video shows a man walking into the 7-Eleven and quickly getting very disruptive, grabbing 2-liter soda bottles and throwing them to the ground. Thankfully, no one in the store was hurt. The man didn't say anything, didn't threaten anyone but his behavior certainly erratic and very concerning. So workers called police. They called the police 30 minutes before police responded to that fight right across the street at the homeless shelter.

That fight broke out at theEleanor Kennedy Homeless Shelterin the9100 block of Richmond Highway. As the two responding officers tried to break up that brawl, one man involved in the fight assaulted one of theofficers, according to officials. That's whena Fairfax County police officer discharged his weapon, killing the man.

The 35-year-old officer who was struck was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries and has since been placed on routine administrative leave. There were at least four other victims and three of them were taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The investigation is still ongoing.
