WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- DC Police are investigating an overnight shooting in Northeast that has left one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 46-year-old James Baxter of Bowie, Maryland.

Metropolitan Police officials tell WUSA*9 officers responded to a report of gunshots in the 500 block of 48th Place near Eads Street around 11:46 Wednesday morning. Once they arrived at the location police found Baxter suffering from a gun shot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

So far investigators have not released any information on possible suspects or motive in the shooting.

Police say a robbery was also reported in the area around 8:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of Fitch Street. At this time there is no word on whether the two incidents are related.
