(USA Today) -- In her latest step to conquer the world, Katy Perry announced today she is the new face of the venerable CoverGirl Cosmetics brand.
"BEAUTIFUL news to share w/you all. Today is my 1st day as a @COVERGIRL! See what happens when you let the light in? #COVERGIRLKATY," she tweeted.
The announcement comes as Perry is preparing to release her third album, Prism, on Oct. 22.
Roar, the first single from the new album, became Perry's 10th No. 1 Top 40 track.
It's Perry's first cosmetics partnership.
"In addition to music, I've always considered makeup to be a powerful creative avenue of self-expression," Perry said in a statement.
"I'm honored to partner with COVERGIRL and share more colors and textures of my approach to beauty to inspire my audience."
The CoverGirl people couldn't be happier, saying Perry's "passion, playfulness, and bold style sensibility" is the perfect fit for a brand that 'comes ready to roar.'"
"Never afraid to express emotion, strength, vulnerability or independence, Katy is the embodiment of a true COVERGIRL - someone we root for, identify with, and get inspiration from," said Esi Eggleston Bracey, VP and general manager of CoverGirl Cosmetics.
Perry will be promoting "bold new beauty looks" for the CoverGirl spring campaign in 2014, which shouldn't be too much of a stretch for a pop star with a history of irreverent style choices, from retro pinup girl to anime space princess to queen of the jungle.
Introduced in 1961, CoverGirl has boasted a long list of celebrity spokeswoman, including models Christie Brinkley, Cheryl Tiegs, Rachel Hunter and Tyra Banks. The current roster includes actresses Sofia Vergara and Queen Latifah, singer Pink and beloved talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres, as well as rising stars such as Janelle Monáe.
