WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Women have been making their mark in the Navy for over a century. According to the Navy's website, 17 percent of women are in Naval Service. Sixteen percent are officers and 17 percent are enlisted.

This weekend the Navy is celebrating the career of the most Senior Enlisted female in the Navy: Command Master Chief Evelyn "Vonn" Banks. She is in command of the Naval Sea Systems. Bank was also named Recruiter of the Year.

She says she joined the Navy because the line was too long at the Army recruitment and the recruiters at the Marine Corp were at lunch.

We asked her about climbing the ladder, career milestones, discrimination sand sexual harrassment, and the last couple weeks of your career at the Navy Yard. We asked her the men and women she commandsat Navy Yard are doing.

Banks is about to retire. She also shared her plans with us.

She also provided some advice for young women about saying yes to the Navy.
