WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - The postmaster general warned this would happen - and now it has: the U.S. Postal Service defaulted on a $5.6 billion retiree benefits payment.

Postmaster general Patrick Donahue warned a senate committee that it would happen.

An agency spokesperson says the default is not related to the government shutdown.
