WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Alittle more than 12 hours since the partial government shutdown took effect everyday people are feeling the consequences. WUSA 9's Mike Hydeck found out its even disrupting people's daily exercise routines.

Maryann and Bill Putnam travel from Boston to visit friends in D.C. every year. They knew the shutdown was coming but they thought for sure the tennis lesson they planned at the Rock Creek Park tennis center was still good to go. They say they even called ahead and were told it wasn't going to be a problem. But when they got there, they discovered the tennis center was closed.

"We thought we'd be fine but here we are with the shutdown. Oh well."

The Putnams took off to try to play somewhere else. Hopefully, they don't run into their local politicians.

"I think it's time to tell Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey it's time to go to work. I want to hear from them."
