WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- An estimated five million animals find themselves in shelters in the U.S. every year. More than half of them won't find a home. So we want to tell you about an event coming up this weekend, where animal lovers can help.

It's called Barktoberfest and it raises money for a no-kill shelter for dogs and cats who need a forever home.

Terry Phillips, who works with Friends of Homeless Animals in Aldie, Va., told us more about the event and who the fundraiser benefits. See the interview above.
