CBS is considering adding some Southern flavor to a very successfulNCISrecipe.
The hit drama, which opens its 11th season on Tuesday (8 p.m. ET/PT), will feature a two-episode, planted spinoff set in New Orleans that could become a new series. The episodes will be shot in February and will be broadcast in the spring.
The two-parter will focus on the New Orleans NCIS office, which handles cases from Pensacola, Fla., through Mississippi and Louisiana and on to the Texas Panhandle. As a city famous for music, food and all manner of fun, New Orleans is a magnet for visitors, including military personnel on leave.
News of the spinoff plan wasfirst reported Monday by Deadline.com.
NCISexecutive producers Gary Glasberg, who oversees the operation of the long-running drama, and Mark Harmon, the series' main star, will serve as executive producers of the new venture.
NCIShas had success with this formula, spinning offNCIS: Los Angeles, which started as anNCIStwo-parter and will open its fifth season Tuesday (9 p.m. ET/PT).
Last season,Los Angelespresented two episodes known asRedthat focused on a mobile NCIS team, but that concept was not picked up as a series.
