WOODBRIDGE, Va. (WUSA9) -- Prince William County police have arrested a man who they say hit an officer during a traffic stop.

Vincent Pierre Carter, 52, of Woodbridge ignored a police officer who tried to stop his car for a traffic offense in the area of Danville Road and Darbydale Avenue, officials said.

Carter actively resisted the officer, leading to a physical altercation in which Carter hit the officer to his shoulder, officials said.

Carter was arrested and charged with assault & battery on LEO, felony eluding, driving under the influence and resisting arrest, officials said.

He is being held without bond.
