WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Two D.C. bridges once categorized as "fracture critical" and "structurally deficient" are now structurally sound.

The 11th Street Bridge, which carries I-695 over the Anacostia River was replaced this year. A bridge on New York Avenue at First Street Northeast was also repaired.

Buttwo other D.C. bridges which cross the Anacostia, the Frederick Douglass Bridge and the Whitney Young Memorial Bridge, are still considered to be "fracture critical." That means they could collapse if a single vital component fails.
