VIENNA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Fairfax County Police say they have arrested and charged 23-year-old Jose Alberto Blanco-Calzadilla with murderin death of16-year-old GerardGomez. Blanco-Calzadilla turned himself into police Sunday evening.

The arrest comesthe same day after ahomicide at a hotel that leftthe 16-year-old Mount Vernon High School Junior student dead.

News of the arrest came right in the middle of a vigil that was being held for the teen Sunday night. More than 200 people mostly teens from Mount Vernon High came out to mourn the 16-year-old's death. Monday, grief counselors will be at the high school to talk to those kids who are coping with this loss.

The shooting death happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday outside the Residence Inn Marriott, on the 8600 block of Westwood Center Drive in Vienna near Tysons Corner.

''The next thing I know I went back in the house I heard a shot and I knew it was a gun," Steve Theiss said.

Theiss was inside his townhouse nearby when he heard the gun shot blast that killed 16-year-old Gerard Gomez.

"I came back out and I heard 'he's dead, he's dead in the car' or something like that and a car speed away and then the police car and a door kicked down," he said.

Police say there may have been a party in one of the hotel rooms that spilled out onto the sidewalk.A fight broke out and investigators believe Gomez was fatally shot in the upper body. Police arrived and found the teen with no pulse.

"They did perform efforts to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead at the scene,"said Fairfax County Police Officer Shelley Broderick.

In the busy Vienna and Tysons Corner area there's mixed use property, many businesses and shops. Residents we talked with say the biggest complaints usually are traffic and petty crime.

"In this area you wouldn't expect anything like that to happen. It's very disturbing,"said Joel Wuthnow, a resident.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time the Gomez family has been through tragedy. Gomez was being raised by his grandmother because his dad wasn't around and his mother died when he was very young.

Police are asking anyone with more information about the murder to call them.
