WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Less than two weeks from now, this anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks is likely to turn bizarre in DC.
A group that includes 9/11 deniers and conspiracy theorists is organizing what it's now calling the Million American March Against Fear.
And it's being countered by the Two Million Bikers To DC protests.
They've been shouting about it on Fox News a week now. "Innocent people died on 9/11. Three thousand of them," Sean Hannity told a march organizer. "So you want to make it a day about Muslims?"
The controversyincited an apocalyptic backlash on YouTube. "A Million Muslim March on 9/11," rails the Rev. Paul Begley. "That's insanity"
Initially called the Million Muslim March on 9/11, organizers changed the name. "This is the Million American March Against Fear," says national spokesman Kevin Barrett.
ButBarrett is a guy who thinks 9/11 was an "inside job."
And it's website features a video by retired Maj. Gen. Albert Stubblebine, who pushed psychic warfare and believes it was a missile that hit the Pentagon.
Organizers insist this is a march for peace, harmony and justice... and that everyone is welcome. "We are trying to memorialize the victims of 9/11 and rethink the meaning of 9/11,which has been use to start a new era of the politics of fear," says Barrett.
"Do you really expect to get a million people?" Iasked Barrett. "No... Realistically, we think it will be a big success if we get 500."
A group calling itself the Two Million Biker To DC is promising to outnumber the March Against Fear. "Their chances of getting two million bikers are even slimmer than our chances of getting one million Muslims," says Barrett.
Maybe the whole thing will fizzle... and DC will commemorate a somber anniversary without disruption.
Organizers of the Million American March are still working on a permit from the National Park Service.
