GAINESVILLE, Va. (WUSA9) -- The Virginia Department of Transportation has delayed shifting Route 29 traffic onto a new bridge in Gainesville due to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

VDOT is delaying shifting traffic onto the new bridge by a week because of the traffic expected at Jiffy Lube Live for the Buffet concert. The sold-out concert will take place approximately a mile from the construction, so officials have opted to push the traffic change tothe August 24th weekend.

"With 25,000 concert-goers coming to Gainesville Aug. 17, that weekend clearly was not the best one for us to take away a lane on Route 29," said Bill Cuttler, VDOT's district construction engineer in northern Virginia, in a statement on Thursday.

Officials say from 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23 until noon Sunday, Aug. 25, only one lane in each direction will be open on Route 29 and Linton Hall Road. They suggest drivers use I-66 and Route 15 to avoid delays, which could last up to an hour. Crews will construct a tie-in to the new bridge and also pave and apint the area during this time.

VDOT built the new bridge to get rid of the at-grade railroad crossing whereseveral crashes have occurred over the years.
