WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- TheConsumer Federation of America released its list ofthe top consumer complaints for 2012.
Forty consumer agencies from across the country participated in the survey.
The annual survey also finds that many of the complaints were scams related to the recession, like foreclosure rescue, abusive debt collection tactics and landlords tenant complaints.
Auto complaints took the top spot in consumer complaints followed by home improvement, credit and debit card billing and fees.
Complaints dealing with utility services were number four on the list. While retail sales rounded out the top five.
CFA says some of the worst complaints agencies received pertained to foreclosure issues, home repair problems after a diaster, sweepstakes scams, work-at-home offers and do not call violations.
