Consumers Speak Out About Being "Slammed" By Energy Provider
WASHINGTON, DC(WUSA) --Customers braved the heavy rain to attend a hearingdown at theD.C. Public Service Commission.
They came to tellcommission members how some alternativeenergy providers "slammed" them.
It happened to D.C. resident Norma Ortiz.
Yesterday, only on WUSA 9, she told how Starion Energy switched her service fromPEPCO without her knowledge or consent. And after the change her utility bills tripled.
Ms. Oritz, the Legal Counsel for the Elderly and others asked the PSC to do more to regulate these businesses to keep this from happening to customers.
A check with theBetter Business Bureau found Starion Energy has 150 complaints and an "F" rating.
Since our story aired, theBBB has placed an alert for consumers on its website for Starion Energy.
