Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Jordan Zimmermann pitched eight strong innings to lead the Washington Nationals in a 5-1 win over the Colorado Rockies to open a four-game set.
Zimmermann (10-3) gave up just one unearned run on six hits with a walk and nine strikeouts, in addition to driving in a run to win his second straight decision.
Adam LaRoche went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Denard Span and Anthony Rendon each had two hits and scored a run for the Nationals, who have won their past two.
Roy Oswalt (0-1) struck out 11 batters in his Colorado debut, but also gave up four runs on nine hits over five innings of work. DJ LeMahieu drove in the lone run of the game for the Rockies, who have dropped four straight and seven of nine.
