LEONARDTOWN, Md. (WUSA9) -- St. Mary's County authorities say that a man is being held without bond after beating and sexually assaulting a woman at a home on Monday.
Sheriff's office authorities say a woman reported getting into a verbal confrontation with Joseph Reginald Curtis II. She told officers that Curtis then grabbed her by her hair and hit her in the face and body several times. Authorities say the woman then ran inside a home to escape but Curtis followed her. Curtis followed her to a bedroom and assaulted her, then locked the door and started sexually assaulting her, say authorities.
Authorities say the woman was able to get away and run out of the home.
Detectives got a search and seizure warrant for the home and an arrest warrant for Curtis, say authorities. According to authorities, when detectives approached the home Curtis stabbed himself.
Curtis was taken to Medstar/St. Mary's Hospital, treated and released, according to authorities. He was then taken to a detention center and charged with assault 1st degree, assault 2nd degree, 1st degree sex offense and false imprisonment.
As for the woman, she was treated for her injuries at a hospital and then released, say authorities.
