(USA Today) --The winning entries in the 2012 National Park Service's annual photo contest will make you want to pitch a tent or learn to fly fish or paddle a kayak, or maybe just take a hike.
The annual Share the Experience competition invites visitors to public lands, including parks, forests, recreation areas and wildlife refuges, to share their images and try for a chance at the $15,000 first prize. The winning photo will appear on the 2014 Federal Recreational Lands Pass.
Top honors go to Katherine Hawkins of Hyde Park, N.Y., for her photo of a scene in Bridger Teton National Forest from the perspective of a child inside a tent. The photo was among 26,160 photo entries. Winners are posted on the National Park Foundation website.
The park service is now accepting entries for its 2013 photo contest through Dec. 31. Upload photos and see complete rules at Share the Experience.
A new category in this year's competition, Let's Move Outside, is inspired by Michelle Obama's Let's Move! initiative.
Prizes are provided by the National Park Foundation, Active Network, Air Wick and Historic Hotels of America.
