WHEATON, Md. (WUSA9) -- A 20-year-old man is charged with attempted first degree murder for stabbing an acquaintance approximately 16 times on April 16, say Montgomery County police.
Police say on April 16 at approximately 10 p.m., officers responded to the area of Georgia Avenue and Reedie Drive in Wheaton for the report of a possible pedestrian struck by a vehicle. They found an 18-year-old man with stab wounds all over his body, according to authorities. The malesuffered life-threatening injuries, and was taken to a local trauma center, say police.They later discovered thevictimhad been stabbed approximately 16 times.
Detectives then determined that 20-year-old Devante Ryan McNeil told a friend earlier that day he was angry with the victim and wanted to fight him. That night, McNeil found the victim in the lobby of an apartment building in the 11100 block of Georgia Avenue and punched the victim in the face, say police.McNeil is then accused of stabbing the victim.
Police say the victim was able to grab the knife from McNeil andrun out ofthe building to Georgia Avenue. They say McNeil ran after him. A passerby saw the victim and called police, according to police.
Detectives found video surveillance showng McNeil and the victim running from building after the assault, say police. Police also sayofficers seized the knife.
On April 17,detectives obtained an arrest warrant for McNeilcharging him with attempted first degree murder, first degree assault, and reckless endangerment. The next day, McNeil was arrested in Silver Spring, according topolice.
As for the victim, he was released from the hospital and is recovering, say police.
