WASHINGTON (WUSA9/AP) --FBI officials say a tip from "an aware, astute individual" lead to the arrest ofa former DC teacher on the FBI 10 Most Wanted Fugitives List for child porn charges. The FBI gave an update on the case on Tuesday morning from its DC office.

After making his first appearance this afternoon in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, Toth has been charged with the production of child pornography and possession of child pornography, said the U.S. Attoney's Office for the District of Columbia.

The production charge carries a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison and a maximum of 30 years. The possession charge carries a maximum of 20 years in prison, according to officials.

"The public is a key partner with the FBI in sharing valuable information that assists in our investigations, and indeed, it was a tip from an awareand astute individual who provided the FBI with the information we needed to trace [Eric] Toth to Nicaragua," said Valerie Parlave, the Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI's Washington Field Office.

In a press release, the FBI said the tipper told law enforcement that Toth was living under an alias. Law enforcement then tracked his movements and a recent purchase to Esteli, Nicaragua where he was taken into custody.

According to investigatorshe lost his teaching job in 2008 after another teacher found images of child pornography on a school camera in Toth's possession. He then disappeared. He's been on the run eluding capture by authorities ever since.

Glenda Zavala said Monday that Toth had been detained Saturday, based on an international detention request. The former teacher faces accusations he possessed and produced child pornography.

The FBI had offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the 31-year-old Toth.

Beauvoir school officials released the following statement on Monday:

"We were informed by the US Attorney's Office (Department of Justice) that former teacher Eric Toth has been arrested.

We commend the work of the Office of the US Attorney and the FBI for their ongoing efforts to apprehend Mr. Toth. They have been tenacious and resolute in their quest to bring this case to justice."
