WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- President Obama said in a news conference today, that all responsible individuals or responsible groups will feel the full weight of justice.
"We are still at the investigation stage at this point. We will find out who did this and we will hold them accountable," said President Obama. "We will find out who did this and we will find out why they did this."
Multiple explosions atapproximately2:50 p.m. today left two dead and more than 50 injured, according to CBS. Hospital officials say six of the injured are in critical condition.
The blastsoccurredat the finish line on the north side ofBoylston Street at the Boston Marathon which brought approximately27,000 runners this year. The second blastoccurred 50-100 yards away,approximately15 seconds after the first blast, police said.
President Obama commended the resilience of the people of Boston and the firefighters and rescue crews who responded in this dangerous situation.
The president also sent hiscondolencesto the victims and their families.
In a statement, Secretary Napolitano said, "Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone impacted by this incident in Boston, especially the families and loved ones of those injured. Federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies continue to respond, and at the President's direction, the Department of Homeland Security is providing any support necessary in this ongoing investigation. We encourage the public to be vigilant, and to listen to direction from state and local officials."
