Annapolis, Md. (WUSA9) -- Republican Anne Arundel County Delegate Don Dwyer Tuesday announced plans to raffle off two assault rifles at a July political fundraiser to benefit his next campaign and an effort to challenge Maryland's new gun control law in court.
One of the rifles is an AR-15, a version of which was used in the Sandy Hook massacre. The other is an AK-47. Both would be banned under Maryland's new law.
"There's never been a better time to do it. Now is the time," Dwyer said when questioned about the timing of his announcement while the parents of Sandy Hook victims are lobbying lawmakers on Capitol Hill in Washington.
Tickets are being sold for $10 for each rifle from Dwyer's campaign website.
"I will protect and defend the God given right to carry and bear firearms," Dwyer said.
