(WUSA9/CBS NEWS) -- Walt Disney Co. says actress Annette Funicello passed away on Monday at the age of 70. CBS News reported that she died at Mercy Southwest Hospital in Bakersfield, California.

Funicello was born in Utica, New York on October 22, 1942.

Funicello was one of the original Mouseketeers on the Mickey Mouse Club at age 13. She then starred in other Disney TV series and films as well as appearing in American International's Beach Party series in the 1960s with Frankie Avalon.

In 1992, Funicello revealed she suffered from multiple sclerosis. In 1993, she opened the Annette Funicello Fund for Neurological Disorders at the California Community Foundation.
