Cedar Falls, IA (Sports Network) - Paced by 15 points from Davion Berry, the Weber State Wildcats held off the Northern Iowa Panthers, 59-56, in the semifinal round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament at the McLeod Center.
Scott Bamforth shot 4-of-7 from 3-point range for 14 points, while Frank Otis tallied a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds for Weber State (30-6), which has won 17 of its last 18 games and will host East Carolina in the championship game on Tuesday.
For UNI (21-15), Seth Tuttle led all scorers with 16 points to go with 10 rebounds. Deon Mitchell netted 11 points for the home team, while Marc Sonnen chipped in 10 points.
Weber State started the game off red-hot, as it led 14-2 less than seven minutes in. It shot 53.6 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes and eventually took a 38-31 advantage into the break.
The Wildcats found themselves up nine early in the second half before the Panthers ripped off an 11-1 run to take their first lead of the game, 44-43 with 14:01 to play. The contest remained tight until Berry snapped a 55-55 tie with a jumper at the 4:12 mark to give Weber State the lead for good. UNI managed to score just one point in the final five and a half minutes of the game.
Neither team shot greater than 40 percent from the field, but Weber State managed to drain seven 3-pointers, compared to only three for UNI.
