SPRINGFIELD, Va. (WUSA9) -- There are 22 confirmed assaults and still no arrest of the elusive man known only as the Springfield Groper.
The most recent happened on March 12 and now police are meeting with worried residents in the area.
Scores of people packed into Crestwood Elementary for the community meeting. Police explained despite their best efforts they haven't been able to catch whoever is responsible for assaulting unsuspecting women. In all 22 cases women who are walking in public spaces on their own and are approached by a man who gropes them and runs off.
Fairfax County Police Captain and Commander of the Franconia sector, Jim Baumstark says even police are becoming "frustrated" with their own inability to put an end to the attacks.
However, with so many resources put into these investigations Baumstark says now its just a waiting game to catch the suspect.
"I think it's just a matter of when. I think he has been very lucky and I think his luck is about ready to run out," he said.
I'm the meantime a sense of paranoia exists among women in Springfield.
Sandy Barrick a concerned neighbor said, "You start realizing that you have to look at everybody as potentially could this be the person."
Police encourage the community to stay vigilant and call in any tips they may have.
