Logan, UT (Sports Network) - Jarred Shaw posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Utah State Aggies downed the Texas State Bobcats, 77-61, in a Western Athletic Conference matchup at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
For the Aggies (20-9, 10-7 WAC), Ben Clifford added 13 points, Marcel Davis finished with 12 points and Spencer Butterfield notched a double-double of his own with 10 points and a career-high 20 rebounds.
Vonn Jones led the Bobcats (9-21, 4-13) with 19 points.
Utah State hit on 41.9 percent of its field goal tries and 3-of-12 from 3- point range in the first half. The Aggies were able to take a 34-15 lead into the break by holding Texas State to just 17.4 percent shooting, including 0-of-7 from 3-point range.
After halftime, the Aggies shot only 40.7 percent from the field and 2-of-8 from 3-point range, but they outscored Texas State 19-9 from the free-throw line. The Bobcats shot 45.5 percent from the field, including 7-of-16 from 3-point distance in the half. Utah State pushed its lead to as many as 26 points in the second half, as the Aggies coasted to victory.
The Aggies dominated the boards, outrebounding the Bobcats, 47-30. Though both squads committed 19 turnovers each, the Aggies did a better job capitalizing on their opponent's mistakes, finished the night with a 23-7 edge in points off of turnovers.
