LEXINGTON PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- Two men from Lexington Park are charged after several drivers reported that their cars were hit with pellets Tuesday night.

According to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office, deputies went to investigate the reports in the area of Chancellors Run Road and Fox Chase Drive in Lexington Park at approximately 8:50 p.m.Tuesday. Drivers told deputies that their vehicles were struck by a projectile while traveling on Chancellors Run Road, according to sheriff's office authorities.The projectiles,later identified as pellets, shattered some car windows, say authorities.

While deputies were investigating and interviewing drivers, they noticed two people standing in the immediate area of where they believed the projectiles were coming from, say authorities. Deputies noted that Curtis William Richardson and Anthony Michael Owens were the only two people out there"on foot, on a cold, sleeting and raining night," according to the sheriff's officepress release on the incident. Authorities saythe deputies interviewed Richardson and Owens separately and found some inconsistencies in their statements. Deputies later found and seized a pellet rifle, say authorities.

Richardson and Owens were both arrested and charged with 3 counts of destruction of property and 3 counts of reckless endangerment, say authorities.
