FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (WUSA9) --The Fredericksburg Police Department says 60-year-old John Wesley Jeffries has been arrested.

Police apprehended Jeffries on Wednesday at about 3:50 p.m. at an acquaintance's house at the 2000 block of Lafayette Blvd. in Fredericksburg.

Members of the Safe Streets Task Force, which is made up of officers from Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Stafford, King George, Virginia State Police and the FBI, arrested Jeffries after they noticed he was trying to sneak out of a window.

Jeffries was transported from the scene by ambulance to Mary Washington Hospital, due to an unknown medical condition. Police said he was not injured during the arrest.

Authorities began searching for Jeffries on Sunday after they suspected him to be involved in the murder of an elderly couple in their home in The Plains.

Eighty-year-old Nelson Slack and his 74-year-old wife Ethel had lived there for nearly fifty years.

Law enforcement from Fauquier to Spotsylvania county were searching for Jeffries who was wanted for several violent crimes in the Fredericksburg area.

He is also registered as a violent sex offender in Virginia and was wanted in Spotsylvania county for three felonies - abduction, strangling, and malicious wounding.

The Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office will be in custody of Jeffries, police said.
