WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Millicent West, the former D.C. Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management who resigned in January, has been charged with "Attempting to Interfere with theAdministrationof Internal Revenue Laws".

West is expected in court tomorrow. Court documents in the case are attached.

West's resignation happened during an investigation into D.C. Council corruption.

In a letter, West wrote: "Thank you for the opportunity to serve the District of Columbia. With this writing I am offering my resignation as Director of the DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency. Given the current distractions, I believe that this is the best decision for both my family and the District. It has been an honor to serve this great city."

West was the head of an organization that administered funds that former council member Harry Thomas Jr. had admitted stealing.
